Artifact 1
This is my final paper for Honors 211: Ways of Meaning. I got to dive deeper into my own culture and sense of self with this paper by looking at it through the lens of language. The class was interesting even if it was a little dense at times
Artifact 2
I had little expectations for actually getting into a study abroad my first year at UW, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got this acceptance email. I knew my interview went well with the two trip coordinators (Trent and Carey), but had no idea whether I not I would get it.
Winter 2019 Reflection
Winter quarter has been a time to get more acquainted with college life in Seattle and really getting to know the friends I have made last quarter. It was also the first time I had to write longer papers in college which was an interesting experience to say the least. Academically, this quarter felt pretty normal, just two introductory classes and an honors class. I struggled a little bit in every class which is pretty unusual for me, but I made it to the end so I will be better prepared next time. I feel at odds with the college education system currently, I don't really feel that these large introductory classes are conducive to my learning and I think that reflects in my grade and how much effort I put in.
I think the real areas of my life that changed the most are the people who I surround myself with, mostly other people in my dorm. We have fun in the lounge playing board games and I have even found some others to play Dungeons and Dragons with on a semi-regular basis. I like being able to see familiar people consistently but see enough different people to a point where I don’t feel stagnant in who I hang out with. As the weather changed and got nicer, I began to take more photos while friends and I went on walks around campus. I began taking my film camera everywhere with me and have begun to really hone my skills as a photographer and as a film developer in the photolab. Photography has become one of my favorite hobbies.
This quarter I applied to go on a study abroad trip to the Netherlands and got in. I am very excited to go as it will be my first time out of the country and the Netherlands is somewhere I have always wanted to go. While this quarter did not really go how I wanted it to academically, I am happy just to leave it behind me as there are many things that I can look forward to.
